Hey Friend! How is your 2023 going so far? Personally, mine has not gone at all as planned! 😬😂 Joke’s on me, being the planning gal that I am! Between fast-tracking the production of an audiobook during the first 3 weeks of the year, having sick kids, and then having “he who shall not be named” (if you catch my drift) pull some rather interesting antics in the past couple of weeks that could likely land us back in court, it has been, well… interesting? Yeah, let’s go with that.
Regardless of what hard things each of us individually face, we all get the rug ripped out from under us sometimes and it can necessitate a bit of a spell in survival mode. And after many years of having to oscillate in and out of survival mode as life has ebbed and flowed, I actually feel like I have gotten much better at it. It can be frustrating, but I no longer view it as hopeless, or even permanent (as it can often feel when you’re in it).
Over the past couple of weeks, Katie and I have put out some Live Well Anyway podcast episodes all about surviving survival mode- how to get through it as well as possible and even bring yourself some little pleasures in the midst of it. You can find those episodes here:
Episode 118- Surviving “Survival Mode”
Episode 119- Favorite Things, Late Winter Edition
This week’s episode will be the third in this series where I will tackle how to come out of survival mode when you are ready to move to the other side of the trauma and get back to life. So, be sure you are subscribed to the podcast and tune in for that one.

For Your Viewing Pleasure
Here is a short list of some of the things I have been watching and enjoying lately!
Shrinking on Apple+ A star-studded cast and the same creators as Ted Lasso, this show is heartfelt and deep as well as funny. I am only a couple of episodes in, but loving it so far!
Kara & Nate on YouTube- I feel like this vlogging couple’s content just keeps getting better and better! Their recent vlog about swimming with orcas is nothing short of documentary quality, and I have also enjoyed their other recent arctic adventures. They are not to be missed!
Annie Samples @annieineventyrland on IG- A favorite new find on Instagram, this expat mama of 4 now resides in Copenhagen and does a masterful job of mini-vlogging. Her insights into the differences between parenting in the US and Denmark are so interesting, even as a parent who is not currently in the same stage as her (but let’s just say that I think I would have really thrived as a mom in Denmark!).
